The roots of
Marios Hairdressing
The story began in Naples in 1938 when Ugo set up the salon in his hometown with brothers Guido and, of course, Mario. A year later, the Second World War began. Ugo was drafted and taken as a prisoner of war at the battle of El Alamein in North Africa.
After there he was transferred to Brighouse, and this is where his English adventure would begin. There, he met his future wife Mary, but originally returned to Naples.
As they say, love finds a way. After Mary visited on a holiday to Naples, Ugo made his mind up. He decided to move to England to be with Mary. When he arrived, they opened up that iconic first hair salon, and the rest is history.

Improving hairdressing standards.
Hairdressing in Bradford and the West Yorkshire region back then was very basic. Ugo’s flair and ideas that came with him blossomed, but the business couldn’t really grow until the final ingredients were added. It was 1969 when brothers Guido and Mario joined Ugo in running six hair salons throughout Leeds and Bradford.
After a long period of success, the business decided to focus on the two salons that exist today, delivering the highest quality imaginable, and transforming people’s lives through the fantastic array of hair colours and styles that we bring.
What's happening now and in the future?
We began accepting online bookings through our Booksy app and, of course, launched our website so that even more people can enjoy hair styling from one of the best in the business.
We continue our 20-year partnership with Italy, who are second to none in providing the best hair colours on the market, and our Italian heritage over three generations remains the most critical part of our operation.
Covid presented hurdles that were overcome with strict attention to detail, glass screens to protect our customers, and ruthless disinfection of all sites. But we got through this tough time that put paid to a lot of businesses.
